| Someone, who supposedly knows how to tie an egg is suggesting that you use 210 or flat waxed nylon for egg flies. Although I use these products on saltwater flies to cover the shank quickly and build up the head, these theads are not good when it comes to holding thick material on the hook. The monofilament thread that is available today is the thread you want for eggs. It is small diameter and you can't break it! With the larger threads, you end up with more thread than material and the fly loses translucence. You also end up with a less durable egg. Tie a whip finish with these larger threads and you will see what I mean. Use the monofilament thread, you will be glad you did. You can also let me know who knows what they're talking about. |
