| After 40 years of wading there is one thing I have learned for certain; “All waders leak”. No matter how tough your waders claim to be, one stroll through the “Bull Creek Briars” and you are suddenly wet wading. We have had the opportunity to sell every wader available today. I repeat; “Every wader”. We turned down the opportunity to sell the status symbol waders because of first hand accounts of unacceptable service, something the Contented Angler doesn’t put up with. We also realized that we live in an area where there are very few millionaires and a great majority of people are not going to spend $600.00 - $700.00 for waders. Status symbol waders go hand in hand with “high priced advertising”. The smartest of people are influenced by these ads, but the people that visit the Contented Angler are no longer fooled. As always, the advertising is built into the price of the wader. Myth: “I buy expensive waders because they are more comfortable”. If waders are comfortable, why does it always feel so good to take them off? I have never put on a pair of waders and said to myself; “ Ah, that feels better”. The words waders and comfort should not be used in the same sentence! Before you sit down to watch television this evening, put your waders on and tell me how comfortable you are. Since everyone knows that all waders leak, our main concern at The Contented Angler is to search for the best service for you. We have to be able to talk to the company. More importantly, the shop has to be on the side of the consumer. They have to be willing to fight for you to get a replacement if, in their opinion, you didn’t abuse them. You shouldn’t have to do this. We also send the waders back for you, if need be. For what you pay for status symbol waders you can have two pair of moderately priced waders and use one for a back up pair. Believe me, there is going to come a time when you have to send your waders back and with a backup pair, you just keep on fishing. You can have this setup for less money than you pay for one pair of fancy waders. This is worthy of careful consideration. Buy waders when you want to buy them not when you have to. We currently carry four brands of waders. This gives the consumer a good variety of moderately price waders and enables us to get feedback on the different brands. There are only three important points you need to keep in mind when buying waders. A backup pair, a company that will back the product up, and a shop that will back you up. It will save you money and headaches. I don’t enjoy selling waders, it’s just something I have to do. If a flock of geese show up at my door because they have to start wearing rubber soles, I might consider hanging it up. if all of the critters that inhabit our streams don't bother you, the best solution is to wet wade. |
